Riding K v Beverley C
3rd March 2008
Mark and Andy on 1st with Mark keen to redress his defeat from the 1st half when he was well under par suffering from a chest infection, but to no avail. Andy was fast and effective and despite losing the 3rd,clinched it in four.
Old hand Jeff, on next against youngster Sam, whose speed around the court was too good for Jeff, who managed to take the 3rd but also lost in four.
Paul and Neil went on next, but unfortunately towards the end of the 2nd game Neil turned over on his ankle and was unable to continue. Another injury for Beverley who were already missing Captain Jonathon, who had cracked a rib "coughing", (not coffin !)
Finally, the much awaited 1s with Steve against Mike Straw who was missing in the 1st half fixture, also due to injury (what a poorly side !) Steve won the 1st, then threw the second away. 3rd and 4th both went to tie-breaks with each winning one. The final game went to Mike fairly quickly.
A bad tempered game on both sides, with accusations (& racquets) flying around. All friends again in the bar afterwards, however.
That result effectively ending any chance of Riding "K" finishing in the top two.
Good Luck Beverley.
Riding K v Riding M
21st February 2008
Steve & Colin's was a good game at 1 with Steve keeping on top, until the third when a few foot-fault calls upset the flow and the "crowd", but Steve took the match on the tie break.
The two sluggers Jeff and Alan then locked horns with Jeff taking the first two, then loosing the third on a tie break, before sealing Alan's fate in the fourth.
Mark, versus sub Graeme, then went on with Graeme giving his all in the first two, then running out of steam a bit in the third and fourth, bringing it level. He then called on his reserves of strength from weeks of fitness training and won in the fifth, the only winner for Riding M.
Finally, Paul and Steve concluded the night with a fairly convincing victory for Paul, showing renewed resolve after a few lack lustre weeks.
A welcome victory for Riding K after two bad previous results whilst missing their No. 1.
Riding K v Ferriby D
4th December 2007
3s on 1st. Jeff took control early on and Ian never really got going, with Jeff winning fairly comfortably 3-0.
4s next, Mark took the 1st with good lengths and lobs, but then went to pieces, again, and lost the next three, once Gary had got warmed up. 1-3
2s. Paul against yet another veteran, Gordon. Paul went off like a train and took the 1st two games to 8 in each, but then did his usual of going to sleep in the third, losing it on a tie-break. He woke up again in the fourth to win 3-1.
1s on last. Steve against Matt. Close 1st & 2nd - 1 apiece. Steve then challenged the referee's newly acquired qualification by complaining about the amount of Matt's sweat on the court. It was duly mopped up, and he then won the next two, winning 3-1.
Another convincing win for Riding K, followed by excellent camaraderie, hospitality, wine food and copious drinks, (but not for Steve, who had to remain abstemious due to his 1st driving constraints of the season !)

Riding K v Anlaby C
22nd November 2007
Reverse order for a change (!) with young Sam needing to be away. Steve R was on form again giving Sam little room to manoeuvre, even though he was very quick around the court. Steve won in 3 with the 2nd going to a tie break.
2s on next with Paul, against veteran John, struggling to find last season's form and John recovering very well. 1 apiece after 2, then Paul powered home in 4, last game only conceding 4 rallies.
3s with "Oldie" Jeff vs young Charlotte. She never really got to grips with Jeff's unorthodox style and Jeff won in 3, with a tie break in the last.
Finally 4s, Mark and substitute Tim. Mark won the 1st two fairly easily and then proceeded to give the next three to Tim who had now warmed up and Mark had run out of what little steam he had, losing in 5 and getting only 3 points in the last.
However, another resounding win for Riding K, only dropping 4 points.
Riding M v Riding K
15th November 2007
(All the Riding K's regulars moving up in Steve Rogers' absence, who preferred listening to that famous comedy double act, Blair & Prescott at a local "Socialist" dinner.)
Martin vs Steve on first at 4. Nip & Tuck all the way with games going to & fro.
Heavyweights on next at 3 Alan vs Mark. Very close all the way with 3 tie-breaks out of 4 and Mark just winning outright in the fourth.
Jeff making his mark up at 2 looked strong against Steve and staggered his way to an impressive 3-0 win.
Colin against Paul at 1, was just too fast around the court and again a lethargic Paul never got going, just managing to sneak the third on the tie break, but then lost the fourth.
Another good night with the Old Woodfordians (Riding M) outlasting the abstemious Riding K stalwarts with the hospitality lasting until 11:30 pm.
Riding K v Haltemprice D
6th November 2007
4s on 1st. Mark never got going in the 1st and Steve won that easily, but then he woke up to win the 2nd. A cracking 3rd game was won again by Mark, in the tiebreak. 4th started well for Mark, but who then started limping ! Hamstring had tweaked, but he continued valiantly, but to no avail, going down to 13 in both the 4th & 5th games. Bad Luck. 1s on next, (out of order), due to a selfish calling to the Bar, and not in the legal sense. Two Steves again, Rogers vs Smith. Rogers was on sparkling form, at last, after a couple of lack-lustre weeks and moved the ball all over with Smith chasing well, but Rogers' lobbing was too good and he won 3-0. 2s next in the shape(!) of Waller & Lorne. Fairly even in the 1st two games, 1 a piece. Waller then turned up the gas a bit and despite Lorne's best running efforts, Waller won the next two to 10 each. 3-1. Old campaigners on last, Jeff vs Trev. Trev won the 1st two quite easily, then Jeff got his head together and won the 3rd on a tie-break. He then proceeded to take the last two hard fought games, both to 13. Well done. Excellent after match hospitality was enjoyed, with the some of visitors not leaving until after 11:15 pm.
Haltemprice E v Riding K
17th October 2007
Young, fit Paul vs ageing, overweight Mark on first at 4. Paul never got into his stride and Mark was serving well and getting good lengths to overwhelm Paul fairly easily in 3. Howard at 3 gave his all, covering the court well against Jeff on his 1st outing this season, who just kept the pressure on to win in 3 tight games. Dave at 2 looked strong at first against a lethargic Paul, whose mind was elsewhere on his fast approaching vacation, but Paul got it together after a tight tie-breaker in the 2nd to run out a 3-1 winner. Nabs against Steve at 1, Nabs taking the 1st, then Steve taking the 2nd & 3rd despite nursing his recurring bad back, Steve then gave up the 4th to save his strength to take the tight 5th to 13. A good night with the squash finishing slightly later at 9:07 pm. but the hospitality lasting until 11:15 pm.
Beverely C v Riding M
3rd October 2007
Beverley C welcomed new registered players to the team to start the season off with great results against a diminished Riding M who were unable to field a player at No. 4. The string 3 match kicked off the evening, Jonathan Rollison lofted high serves to frustrate Alan and easily took the match 3-0. Next Rob Haworth, who joined the club this season from University Staff, played well against Steve Story and held the lead through to the last rally. Mike Straw played Colin at No. 1 and realised complacency was not allowed, when points began to slip away, but pulled ahead to take the match 3-0. Without a No. 4 in the Riding Team, Nigel offered to play Andy Barron to give him a run out after just about recovering from the first match and a return from holiday - thanks for that Alan. Andy outwitted and overpowered Alan to take three games. The new scoring system was no problem, and we look forward to trying out the tie break rule!
