Referee Workshop
28 October 2007
There will be another ENGLAND SQUASH REFEREE WORKSHOP on Sunday November 11th and the subsequent examination on Sunday November 25th, you will need to attend and pass the exam in order to qualify for the bonus points available throughout the season. This is course is FREE to all registered members of Hull & District teams. You will need to contact the league no later that Monday 5th November to book your place on the course. The workshop covers the first stage of training for all referees, all aspects of the current singles rules and interpretations, and prepares candidates for a written exam to be taken within a 12 month period. Those of you who have previously attended but either didn't take the exam or failed it, will have to attend the workshop again. On completing the exam successfully, candidates achieve a 'Provisional' Grade Referee certification prior to further training (if required) to qualify as a 'County' Grade Referee.
Scoring system for 2007/08 season
29 September 2007
As discussed at the AGM in May 2007, the scoring system for the Humber Squash leagues are to be brought in line with what happens in the professional game governed by the PSA, the only difference being that we will play point a rally (PAR) to 15 instead of 11.
Below is a summary of the scoring rules and how to record your results:
- Each game is scored up to 15 points, point-a-rally.
- Matches are best-of-five games.
- If the game score reaches 14-14 (fourteen all) there is no election by the receiver. A player must win the game/match by two clear points.
- The Marker calls: "14-14 (fourteen all), tiebreaker, player to win by two clear points, 0-0 (love all)"
- The Marker to then to call the score as: "1-0 game ball (or match ball)", then "1-1", then "2-1 game ball (or match ball)", then "3-1 game/match to (player name)".
- The game score is then recorded, for all purposes, as: 15-14 (3-1). All scores are recorded with 15 as the winning player's score.
Referee Exam / Bonus Point
29 September 2007
It was also agreed at the AGM than a bonus point would be awarded to those clubs how had a qualified referee registered in there team who played and marked games. Humber Squash agreed to meet the full cost of the workshop and exam making it free for all members to attain the relevant qualification. Due to an extremely poor response from clubs the course did not go ahead as planned, however, those of you who are already qualified will still be eligible to earn the bonus points. Teams need to contact Humber Squash ASAP to inform us who in your team is a qualified referee, once their status is confirmed bonus points can be earned.
There will be another opportunity later in the year (November/December), again funded by Humber Squash for you to attend the workshop, so keep checking the website for details. With up to 11 extra points available can you afford not to get qualified! Well done to those of you already qualified, you already have the advantage over your opponents.
New Season Fixtures
28 September 2007
The new season is about to start so the results database have been cleared ready for the new score cards. We've also made some improvements: all game and match results will now be stored and we've made it easy to see all individual player's and team's results, as well as actual fixtures instead of week commencing as previous.
Version 3 of the fixtures has been uploaded in Excel and Acrobat formats,
- Division 1 fixtures (xls) or fixtures (pdf)
- Division 2 fixtures (xls) or fixtures (pdf)
- Division 3 fixtures (xls) or fixtures (pdf)
- Division 4 fixtures (xls) or fixtures (pdf)
- Division 5 fixtures (xls) or fixtures (pdf)
NB: xls files will open into any spreadsheet program
Score Cards
30 September 2007
There is a score card in pdf format for you to download and for use on the night to record you match score. Please then ensure that your results are sent in via email by downloading and fully completing the score card (word document) available from the Humber Squash website. This ensures that all the relevant information is received, and is in the correct format. Random emails in any other format WILL NOT be accepted. Results cards should be email to the following email address: results@humbersquash.org
Be sure to indicate who in you team is the qualified ref/marker by putting ref next their name, then record the bonus point as applicable. Also clearly indicate who is a sub for your team by marking sub next to their name.
Match Reports
30 September 2007
Be sure to send in match reports every few weeks along with pictures that you can take on you mobile phone, this helps keep the website more colourful and interesting to read. Please help out and take your turn with this one otherwise we will be forced into organising a rota system to gather information. If you have a particularly close or tense match, some hard fought tiebreakers, then tell us about it. We have the opportunity to post information on the Sport Hull website which replaced the Sports Mail so please help us to provide some interesting information. Match reports and photos should be sent to webmaster@humbersquash.org
